MISSION STATEMENT
The Albany Collegiate Interfaith Center strives to facilitate interfaith activities and encourage spirituality for the students, faculty, staff and alumni of the University at Albany. The Albany Collegiate Interfaith Center operates and maintains a building, Chapel House, as well as provides support and facilities for chaplaincy and religious services, group meetings, conferences, research and related activities. The Board of Directors shall provide service and direction, and solicit financial resources to support this interfaith mission.
In 1966 Chapel House, the Albany Collegiate Interfaith Center, began its tradition of promoting interfaith understanding and cooperation within the University at Albany community. Significant stories behind Chapel House have enriched its history and strengthened interfaith relationships. In 1985, a Protestant (Lutheran) Chaplain rescued the Jewish Torah from the smoldering ruins of the first Chapel House, the old Barnes Lodge on Waverly Place; the Catholic Community donated a silver pointer to the Jewish Community; the Jewish Community donated a candle stand to the Christian Community; Catholic students gathered tools for the creation of a Jewish sukkah.
